Elaine is the Director of Technical Learning and Development for Engineering Career Solutions. Elaine brings more than 33 years of hands-on experience in continuing education to ECS when she joined in 2022. Previously, she led the international leader in continuing engineering education in chemical processing for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has designed and developed more than 50 successful continuing education technical programs in her career. Elaine holds a BS degree in Chemical Engineering-Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MS degree in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University. She is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and holds the Laser Welding Technical Specialist credential.

Richard P. Palluzi, PE, CSP, of Richard P. Palluzi LLC, is a consultant to the pilot plant and laboratory research community on safety, design, and research project management. He retired as a Distinguished Engineering Associate after almost 40 years at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, where he was involved in the design, constriction, and support of pilot plants and laboratories for ExxonMobil’s research site in Clinton, New Jersey, as well as affiliates worldwide. Rich is the author of two books and numerous articles and presentations, as well as a past chair of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Pilot Plant Committee, ExxonMobil’s Pilot Plant and Laboratory Safety Standards Committee, and ExxonMobil’s Safe Operations Team for their Clinton facility. Rich is on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) NFPA-45 Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals and NFPA-55 Industrial and Medical Gases committees. He holds BE and ME degrees in chemical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
David Dickey created and runs MixTech, Inc., an independent consulting service where he solves process and mechanical problems with various types of mixing equipment. He can also provide specifications for new mixers and evaluations of existing mixers. Before starting his consulting business, he had more than twenty-three years’ experience with manufacturers of various types mixing equipment including Chemineer, Patterson-Kelly and Robbins & Myers. His diversity of experience has helped him understand the importance of mixing to the overall success of many chemical and biological processes. He was one of the contributing editors of Advances in Industrial Mixing, Wiley (2015). Dave is the developer of the Mixing Index, a calculation tool to assess the intensity of liquid mixing. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is a past president of the North American Mixing Forum. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dave holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.
Marc Hernandez, LWP, is the Manufacturing Engineering Technician Supervisor for DSSA-AZ (Daicel Safety Systems America–Arizona), a leading air bag inflator device manufacturer, located in Mesa, Arizona. In conjunction with Elaine, Marc led the development of the Laser Welding curriculum and Certificate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to joining DSSA-AZ, Marc worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at Special Devices Inc. (SDI), where he developed and maintained robotic laser welding cells for their operations worldwide. Prior to joining SDI, Marc worked for TRW Automotive Air Bag Inflator Manufacturing, and the US Navy in a variety of directed energy operations. Marc holds a BS degree in Management and is an accredited Laser Welding Professional SM.
Charles W. Lipp founded and is the principal consultant at Lake Innovation LLC. The work with clients focuses on atomization and sprays and inventive analysis. He authored two books, Practical Spray Technology and Spray Drying essentials. Charles also edited the “Sprays” article in the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 5th and 6th editions.
He was a technical leader at the Dow Chemical Company. During his 35-year career at Dow, Charles worked on many process spray applications. He holds a BS degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University.
Joseph Marinelli is a Senior Consultant with Solids Handling Technologies, Inc. in Rock Hill, SC. Joe is a bulk materials handling expert who has taught hundreds of highly acclaimed engineering courses and seminars. Since 1972, Joe has been actively involved in testing bulk solids and consulting on materials handling systems design. Joe worked with Dr. Andrew Jenike, world-renowned expert on solids handling for 23 years prior to joining Solids Handling Technologies, Inc. Joe received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University.
Scott Miller is a Senior Consultant at Solids Handling Technologies in Rock Hill, SC. Scott works closely with Solids Handling’s clients to evaluate and solve their solids flow problems. Prior to his work with Solids Handling, he spent several years as a plant engineer at a waste-coal power plant in Pennsylvania experiencing firsthand the challenges of difficult flowing materials. Scott received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Geneva College.
